Edmon Marukyan Raises Armenian POW Issue; Calls on CoE to Act

Edmon Marukyan, who heads Armenia’s Bright Armenia parliamentary faction, raised the issue of Armenian POWs at today’s session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

Marukyan, according to a statement released by his office, said the return of Armenian military POWs and civilians is at the core of any mutual trust building after the war.

“Azerbaijan honors its military, which beheads Armenian soldiers, beheads a peaceful elderly resident of Shushi. And after all this, they talk about trust and peace,” Marukyan stated at PACE.

Marukyan described the continued holding of Armenian POWs and civilians in Azerbaijani hails as an act of terrorism.

“Armenia, for its part, has fulfilled all the clauses of the ceasefire agreement, and Azerbaijan violates its 8th clause by not releasing our prisoners of war, civilians. Thus, I call on all members of the Council of Europe to put pressure on the Azerbaijani authorities to release Armenian prisoners of war and civilians,” Marukyan said.
