USAID Allocates Addition $2.65 Million to Help Develop Armenia's Agriculture

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will allocate $2.65 million in additional funding for the development of Armenia's agricultural sector.

Funding, according to a USAID statement, will expand to two USAID programs, providing more targeted support to women entrepreneurs by forming cooperatives.

USAID's Rural Economic Development - New Economic Opportunities (RED-NEO) program, launched in February 2019, will receive an additional $1.15 million, bringing the total budget to $ 5.15 million. These additional measures will direct the program to develop women's capacity, promote rural entrepreneurship, and target barriers that prevent women from taking on the role of economic leader.

USAID is also providing an additional $1.5 million to the Innovative Agricultural Training Campaign (AGRI CAMP) to strengthen formal cooperatives, business development, and increase access to agricultural innovation for women.

The total funding for the project now stands at $1.9 million. Launched in May 2020, AGRI CAMP is renovating the Kotayk region branch of the National Agrarian University of Armenia, where entrepreneurs from rural communities in Armenia will gain new skills to expand their business and improve production.
