Armenian President's Roundtable Proposal Falls Through; Will Meet Separately with Political Opponents
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian will meet today with My Step parliamentary faction head Lilit Makunts and Bright Armenia faction leader Edmon Marukyan to discuss the political situation in the country.
On March 10, Sarkissian announced that he would attempt to organize a roundtable discussion, attended by government and opposition representatives, tasked with finding solutions to the ongoing political crisis.
Yesterday, Sarkissian announced that his plan to get PM Nikol Pashinyan, leaders of the three parliamentary factions, and representatives of the Homeland Salvation Movement (HSM) in one room, had fallen through.
Sarkissian, in a statement, said that the My Step and Bright Armenia factions had accepted the invitation, but that the Prosperous Armenia faction and the HMS proposed their own agenda.
Sarkissian said he is ready to have separate meetings both with those invited, as well as with deputies not included in the factions of the National Assembly, and with the representatives of different extra-parliamentary political forces.
Sarkissian plans to meet with PM Nikol Pashinyan today.
