Armenian Foreign Minister Tells Visiting OSCE Chairperson-in-Office that Karabakh Ceasefire Leaves Core Issues Unresolved
Welcoming Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ann Linde, who also serves as the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, to Yerevan today, Armenian Foreign Affairs Minister Ara Ayvazyan said the trilateral Karabakh ceasefire agreement leaves several core issues of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process unresolved and that Armenia welcomes the resumption of the process under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
“Amongst them is the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination which entails the issue of the status and territories of Nagorno-Karabakh,” reads a statement on the meeting released by Ayvazyan’s office.
Ayvazyan told Linde that Azerbaijan refuses to implement the trilateral ceasefire as hundreds of the Armenian POW and civilian hostages remain in captivity.
“After four months of ceasefire, Azerbaijan continues to inflict suffering on hundreds of people and their family members subjecting them to physical and psychological pressure,” Ayvazyan said.
The two also planned to discuss humanitarian assistance to Artsakh and the protection of Armenian cultural and religious monuments in Azerbaijani-held territory.
Sweden has recently upgraded its mission in Armenia to a full-fledged embassy.
