Snap Parliamentary Elections in Armenia on June 20

Armenian Prime MinisterNikol Pashinyan, in a Facebook post today, announced that snap parliamentary elections will be held on June 20.

Pashinyan wrote that earlier today he had met with Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) leader Gagik Tsarukyan and that the two agreed that early parliamentary elections were the best way to resolve the ongoing political crisis in Armenia.

The BHK is the second largest faction in the current parliament.

"Taking into account my discussions with the President of the Republic of Armenia, the My Step faction, the leader of the Bright Armenia faction Edmon Marukyan, early parliamentary elections will be held in the Republic of Armenia on June 20," Nikol Pashinyan wrote.

The opposition Homeland Salvation Movement, a loose alliance of some fifteen political forces, has called for Pashinyan to resign before the holding of snap elections.
