Catholicos Garegin II Presides at Easter Eve Liturgy at St. Gayaneh
On the evening of Holy Saturday, April 3, on the Feast of the Miraculous Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, under the leadership of His Holiness Garegin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, the Congregation of the Mother See participated in the Jragalouyts (Lamp-Lighting) Divine Liturgy at the St. Gayaneh Church in Vagharshapat, Armenia.
According to the Mother See, the celebrant was the Chancellor of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Bishop Arshak Khachatryan.
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, as well as the benefactors of the Mother See, were present at the sacred liturgy.
During the solemn ceremony, Bishop Arshak referred to the sacrament of the Holy Resurrection of Jesus Christ, noting: “The resurrection of Christ is the rock of our faith. Without the miracle of the Resurrection, Christ's sacrifice, His sufferings, His crucifixion, and His death would not make sense. The message of ‘Christ is risen from the dead’ radiates like a blazing sun in the darkened sky, the good news that has transformed human life for centuries.”
Following Liturgy, the Catholicos of All Armenians ascended the Holy Tabernacle and lit a life-giving candle symbolizing the Lord Jesus Christ from the lamp of the Holy Table so that the faithful could have the living light of the Risen God in their homes.
After the liturgy, the Congregation of the Mother See and Armen Sarkissian met in the Holy See, where the Blessing of the Holy Resurrection took place.
