Aliyev Says Armenian Armed Forces Lost $5 Billion Worth of Arms and Equipment in Artsakh War

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev claims that Armenian armed forces lost $5 billion worth of arms in last year’s Artsakh war, this according to the Russian RBC daily (РБК) citing Aliyev’s website.

“We destroyed and took as a trophies $5 billion worth of armaments and equipment of the Armenian Armed Forces during the battles,” Aliyev said.

The RBC says that Aliyev also raised the issue of the alleged use of Iskander missiles by Armenian forces.

On March 31, Azerbaijan’s Demining Agency reported that it had found traces of two Iskander missiles that the Armenian military fired on in the Artsakh town of Shushi during last year’s war.

Whether the Armenian military ever used the Iskander missiles during the war remains a controversial subject.

In an interview on February 23, 2021, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that only 10% of the Iskander missiles purchased from Russia exploded upon impact.

Two days later, in response, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that no Iskander missiles were used during the war.
