Armenian President Visits Syunik Communities to Assess Post-War Problems
Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, accompanied by Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan, today visited several communities in the country’s southern Syunik Province.
Sarkissian, according to a statement released by his office, wanted to see for himself what problems area residents are facing following last year’s war in Artsakh.
The two officials visited Goris, Sisian, Khndzoresk and Karahunj and discussed security and border demarcation matters with community leaders.
Residents have complained that the new borders have prevented them from using pastureland now under Azerbaijani control for cattle grazing.
The unemployment situation, due to a drop in tourism, and infrastructure issues were also discussed.
