Syunik Court to Hear Case of Syrian Mercenaries Captured During Artsakh War

The case of Yousouf Alaabet al-Haji, and Muhrab Mohammad Al Shkher, two Syrian mercenaries captured by the Artsakh Defense Army during last year’s Karabakh war, has been sent to the Syunik Provincial Court of First Instance for adjudication.

The two are charged with attempting to commit serious violations of international humanitarian law during an armed conflict and perpetrating international terrorism.

When originally questioned, the two said they killed no one during the war.

When questioned, Yousouf Alaabet al-Haji said he was born in Syria’s Idlib Province in 1988. He said he was promised $2,000 to fight the infidels in Artsakh and was promised a $100 bonus for every infidel he beheaded.

Prosecutors allege that Al Shkher was recruited by Turkish intelligence agencies to recruit Syrians to fight as mercenaries in Artsakh.
