The Indo-Armenian Friendship NGO has decried the vandalization of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Yerevan, describing it as a consequence of anti-Gandhi propaganda.

"We are deeply saddened to learn that the statue of the world-famous Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of the Indian Independence Movement, a symbol and supporter of international peace, has recently been desecrated by unknown individuals in the Buenos Aires Park in Yerevan,” the organization’s statement reads.

The statute was erected in 2020 and drew the ire of some who claim that Gandhi opposed the 1920 Treaty of Sevres.
