Marking World Press Freedom Day, Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan said the media in Armenia has a large role to play in ensuring government transparency and promoting a diversity of opinion.

"In this challenging period for our country, only a free and professional press can achieve its mission of overcoming the problems we face," Tatoyan wrote in a statement.

He said the work of reporters must be unhindered and protected by law.
