Situation Along the Armenian-Azerbaijani Border Remains the Same, Says Pashinyan

At a special session of the National Security Council today, Acting Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan said that while some Azerbaijani soldiers have left the territory of Armenia, the military-political situation along the border remains the same.

Pashinyan said that CSTO mechanisms to resolve the matter must continue, as well as Armenian-Russian security alliance measures.

Pashinyan said there are pro-Azerbaijani propagandists in Armenia who are using the border stand-off for political gain. He did not mention names.

Pashinyan said these same people “invited” the president of Azerbaijan to attack Armenia. Again, he offered no specifics.

He said that talks to resolve the situation will resume on Wednesday.

“The talks have one theme: the servicemen of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces must leave the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Until this happens, we consider the situation as a crisis, which poses a threat to the sovereignty, stability, territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia, a situation enshrined in the Charter of the Collective Security Treaty Organization,” Pashinyan said.

He said that any adjustment of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border must be done in a tripartite format, including Russian mediation, since formal relations between Yerevan and Baku do not exist.

He's the "caretaker PM" until a new one is elected in June.
