Artsakh Human Rights Defender Gegham Stepanyan, in a statement released today, charges Azerbaijan of waging “information terrorism” against the people of Artsakh to spread fear and despair amongst them and pressure them into leaving the country.

Stepanyan says that Armenians in Artsakh were receiving telephone calls from Azerbaijan with offers to buy their shops and apartments.

He says a new “Khakendi” Facebook page has been launched by the Azerbaijani propaganda machine, noting that in its last post the self-proclaimed Azerbaijani Stepanakert MP published his contact information with the expectation that Armenians would reach out to him. (Khakendi is the Azerbaijani name for Stepanakert, the capital of Artsakh.)

Stepanyan says a review of the Facebook page’s content clearly shows that it is coordinated by the state bodies of Azerbaijan.

Stepanyan calls on the national security bodies to take the necessary technical measures to silence the spread of the page among Artsakh residents.
