Alen Simonyan Elected Armenian National Assembly Speaker

Alen Simonyan, by a vote of 71-0, was today elected President of Armenia’s National Assembly.

All 71 Civil Contract faction MPs voted for Simonyan.

The minority Hayastan (Armenia) and I Have Honor bloc MPs boycotted the vote.

Simonyan, a Yerevan native, was a Yerevan Councilman (2017-2018).

On June 20, 2021, he was elected a member of the National Assembly from the national electoral list of the Civil Contract party.
