Armenia Welcomes Turkish Dialog Initiative; Will Appoint Special Envoy

Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Vahan Hunanyan today confirmed that Armenia will appoint a special envoy to dialog with Turkey regarding the normalization of relations between Ankara and Yerevan.

The move follows a statement made by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on Monday that Ankara has appointed a special envoy to participate in talks with Yerevan and that it will start charter flights to Yerevan.

““We will mutually appoint envoys as part of normalization steps with Armenia,” Çavuşoğlu said during a speech in the Turkish parliament, adding that Ankara will coordinate its steps with Azerbaijan.

Hunanyan, in a statement, said that Armenia has always been ready to talk to Turkey about normalizing relations without preconditions and that the Armenian government welcomes the Turkish initiave.
