Pashinyan Confirms News of Nakhijevan Railway Reopening
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan today confirmed earlier reports following yesterday’s meeting in Brussels with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and EU Council President Charles Michel, that Yerevan and Baku have agreed to reopen a railway that connects Nakhijevan and the rest of Azerbaijan.
The railway straddles the Arax River that serves as the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan to the north and Iran to the south.
Pashinyan, in a Facebook post, says the railway will operate in accordance with internationally accepted border and customs rules, on the principle of reciprocity, under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries.
"Armenia will have access to the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation by rail,” Pashinyan wrote.
