Chinese Ambassador to Armenia Fan Yong and Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan today visited a Yerevan bus depot to inspect a batch of buses recently purchased from China.

The 211 Zhongtong Bus vehicles run on compressed natural gas (CNG).

The buses were purchased by former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan who was ousted from the post this month in a no-confidence vote.

Marutyan’s opponents in the Yerevan Municipal Council accused him, among other things, of mismanaging the bus purchase auction and eventually deciding to purchase lower-quality Chinese buses.

The majority My Step (Im Kayl) council argued it had intended to purchase European buses.

Marutyan, in his farewell remarks, refuted the charges and accused the council majority of inaction in the bus purchase process.
