Pashinyan Says Customs Service Must Reform to Handle Expected Transit Increase

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, referring to the potential reopening of transportation links in the South Caucasus, said that the country’s Customs Service must be ready to handle the increased volume of goods transiting Armenia.

Pashinyan, attending a Gyumri event marking the 30th anniversary of Armenia’s Customs Service, stated that reforms are need within the agency parallel to the reopening of such links.

Pashinyan, according to a statement released by his office, noted that the Bagratashen, Gogavan-Bavra checkpoints have been modernized and the Northern Foreign Economic Activity Service Center has opened in Gyumri. 

The customs checkpoint in Meghri, along Armenia’s southern border with Iran, has yet to be modernized.
