Journalists in Turkey Face Ongoing Hardships, Says Media Association

Fifty-five journalists in Turkey were attacked and two killed in Turkey last year according to a report issued by the Tigris-Euphrates Journalists Association (DFG).

The DFG shared the report’s findings at a press conference yesterday in Diyarbakir.

The report says that 61 journalists were detained and six arrested in Turkey lasy year.

DFG Co-Chair Dicle Müftüoğlu emphasized the importance of democracy, freedom of thought and expression as prerequisites for a freer and livable world and noted that press freedom is an integral part of the process.

"The regime of oppression has been aggravated even further in Turkey," she said according to a Bianet article and noted that dozens of journalists remain behind bars.

Müftüoğlu said it’s become near impossible for journalists to freely work in Turkey.
