Armenian HRD, Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Discuss Human Rights

Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan and Acting UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Lila Pieters Yahia met today in Yerevan and discussed human rights protection issues in the country.

Tatoyan, according to a statement released by his office, praised the level of cooperation with the UN Resident Coordinator and her office, noting the effectiveness of recent programs related to freedom of speech and professional work of journalists, the rights of children, women and people with disabilities, the fight against stereotypes, the rights of refugees and asylum seekers, that have been implemented by the UN Office in Armenia,   with the UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNHCR and other structures.

Tatoyan also stressed that Azerbaijani armed forces continue to violate the rights of the border residents in Armenia (right to life, water and property rights, etc.) every day, grossly breaching UN requirements.

Lila Pieters Yahia thanked Tatoyan for his past work and his important mission to protect human rights.
