Pashinyan, EU Special Rep Discuss Investment Package, Karabakh
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Toivo Klaar, European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, met today in Yerevan and discussed issues related to implementation of the EU's 2.6-billion-euro investment package for Armenia.
In July 2021, The European Union pledged to provide Armenia with up to 2.6 billion euros ($3.1 billion) in economic assistance and investments over the next five years.
The amount is part of an “economic and investment plan” drafted by the European Commission for six ex-Soviet republics involved in the EU’s Eastern Partnership program.
Pashinyan, according to a statement released by his office, stressed the importance of Armenia-EU relations and noted that the democratic reforms process is a priority for his government.
The two also discussed the situation in the South Caucasus following the 2020 Artsakh war and steps taken to defuse tensions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Pashinyan and Klaar also discussed the need to send a UNESCO mission to the Karabakh conflict zone given recent Azerbaijani government remarks about Armenian cultural sites in the region.
Pashinyan also underlined the need for the full implementation of the peace process under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group to settle the Karabakh conflict and for the Misnk Group Co-Chairs to intensify their efforts in this regard.
