During a meeting today with Martina Schmidt, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan, Armenian Human Rights Defender (HRD) Arman Tatoyan summarized the programs his office has implemented during the past six years.

Tatoyan’s six-year tenure as HRD ends this month.

Issues related to the protection of human rights in penitentiaries and psychiatric hospitals, as well as problems in the judiciary due to unreasonable delays in court hearings, were discussed.

During the meeting, Tatoyan noted that one of the main issues at the moment is ensuring the connection between security and human rights and presented his position on the establishment of a security zone along the border, according to a statement released by Tatoyan’s office.
