Armenia Condemns Azerbaijani Conviction of Kocharyan, Sargsyan
The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today condemned Azerbaijan’s recent conviction of former Armenian presidents Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan, on charges of inciting national enmity and hatred between the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples, as hypocritical and anti-Armenian.
The ministry, in a statement released today, charged Baku of “pursuing a policy of anti-Armenian sentiment in Nagorno-Karabakh” instead of taking steps to find people involved in the extrajudicial killings of civilians in Artsakh, the forcible disappearances of Armenian prisoners of war, or to expose criminal networks bringing terrorists to the region.
“We call on Azerbaijan to seek solutions in the constructive field, to take steps to protect the rights and well-being of all the peoples of the region,” the ministry’s statement reads.
The ministry says that Armenia is committed to works for the establishment of peaceful coexistence and mutual tolerance in the region.
Yesterday, the APA reported that the Azerbaijani Military Prosecutor’s Office (MPO) placed the former Armenian presidents on a “wanted list” for having committed crimes against the constitution and laws of Azerbaijan.
