Armenian Foreign Minister, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Discuss Humanitarian Issues Facing Karabakh
Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michel Bachelet met today at the 49th session of the High-Level Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Mirzoyan, noting that this year marks the 30th anniversary of Armenia's accession to the UN, stressed that Armenia has established itself as a responsible and reliable partner of the international community and has consistently contributed to the promotion of multilateralism and the protection and promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the world.
Mirzoyan, according to a statement released by his office, described the post-war situation in Artsakh and called for the unhindered involvement of international organizations to resolve humanitarian issues in Karabakh, including the implementation of humanitarian missions by the UN High Commissioner.
Mirzoyan decried Baku's illegal detention of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians, thus grossly violating international law.
Attention was also drawn to the pre-planned acts of vandalism and destruction of the Armenian cultural heritage in the territories now under Azerbaijani control.
Bachelet underlined the importance of Armenia's leadership to promote the agenda of preventing genocides and crimes against humanity.
