Armenian UNIFIL Peacekeepers Attend Transfer of Authority Ceremony

Armenian servicemen attached to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission took part in a ceremony on February 28 to officially transfer authority from outgoing Head of Mission and Force Commander Major General Stefano Del Col of Italy to Major General Aroldo Lázaro Sáenz of Spain.

The event was attended by Armenian Ambassador to Lebanon Vahagn Atabekyan and Embassy Military Attaché Colonel Alexan Musheghyan.

UNIFIL was established in 1978 following Israel’s invasion of Lebanon.

As of February 2022, UNIFIL's force consists of 10,029 peacekeepers from 46 troop-contributing countries.

Armenia has participated in the UNIFIL mission since 2014 and now has 33 servicemen in Lebanon.
