Armenian Opposition Bill Seeks More Transparency from Foreign Ministry, Prime Minister
Armenia’s opposition “With Honor” MP Hayk Mamijanyan has sponsored a draft bill that requires the Minister of Foreign Affairs to submit a quarterly report, and the Prime Minister twice a year, to the parliament regarding any ongoing foreign policy and security processes, including negotiations with foreign countries.
The draft states that such reports will be discussed at a joint closed sitting of the relevant National Assembly Standing Committees. However, at the request of a quarter of the deputies, the reports may also be discussed at regular parliamentary sessions.
Mamijanyan said the need for the bill is a result of the 2020 Karabakh war and the 2015 constitutional amendments that made Armenia a parliamentary government.
