The Yerevan Municipality has allocated 60 million drams (US$125,000) to clean up Lake Yerevan.

Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan visited the site to inspect the launch of the cleanup of the artificial reservoir built in the 1960s.

Once used as a recreation site by boaters and swimmers, the lake became a household and commercial trash dump over the years.

The municipality wants to transform the lake into a recreation site again and plans to landscape the shoreline, install lighting and a sportsground.
