Armenian Bar Association Voices “Concern” Over LA Times Genocide Life Insurance Revelations
The Los Angeles-based Armenian Bar Association (ABA) issued the below statement (see photo) on March 29 following the March 23 LA Times investigative piece - A ‘blood money’ betrayal: How corruption spoiled reparations for Armenian genocide victims.
The sordid saga continues to unfold amidst the deafening silence and inaction of the Armenian community. It appears that organizations and individuals regarded as “community leaders” have adopted the traditional approach of “riding out the storm”.
The ABA, in its statement, seems to imply that it has only recently been made aware of the financial “malfeasance” surrounding this story even though the claims and counterclaims of who did what were public record for years.
This is hard to digest given that in August 2012, the ABA released a statement that the three attorneys (Vartkes Yeghiayan, Mark Geragos, Brian Kabateck), who initiated the life insurance settlement process and were subsequently accused of various infractions, were ABA members.
