Armenian Foreign Minister, Blinken Discuss Regional Security in South Caucasus

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, now in the United States on a working visit, met with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on May 2 for talks on further cooperation between the two countries in high-tech, energy, finance, banking, civil aviation, the green economy, and other sectors.

The two, according to a statement released by Mirzoyan’s office, discussed international and regional security and stability issues.

Mirzoyan described the situation in the South Caucasus region and Armenia's position on the processes aimed at establishing regional peace and stability.

The sides exchanged views on starting negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan on a comprehensive peace agreement.

Mirzoyan stressed the importance of US mediation efforts for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as a co-chairing state of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Mirzoyan described the humanitarian problems in Artsakh following the 2020 war, the need to repatriate Armenian POWs and detainees, and to preserve Armenian cultural and religious heritage in territories now under Azerbaijani control.
