Armenian Security Council Secretary Says Majority Doesn't Support Anti-Government Protests
Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan believes that most people in Armenia do not support the ongoing anti-government protests.
Grigoryan told reporters today in Yerevan that Pashinyan has the support of most people and denied rumors that the government will request CSTO assistance to quell the protests.
"Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has always relied on the will of the Armenian people in all domestic issues of Armenia. Even during the serious crisis created after November 9, he relied only on the will of the people and saw the solution of the crisis within the framework of internal political institutional capacities," Grigoryan said.
Grigoryan said that the issue will be resolved “exclusively through Armenia's domestic political institutional means” but did not elaborate.
Grigoryan, an Artsakh native, supported the 2018 “Velvet Revolution and was a member of the “Reject Serzh” initiative. He was arrested and released after then PM Serzh Sargsyan resigned.
Pashinyan appointed Grigoryan Security Council Secretary in May 2018, and a year later appointed him First Deputy Foreign Minister. In August 2021, Grigoryan was reappointed Security Council Secretary.
