Armenian Foreign Minister, U.S. State Department Official Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and visiting U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Secretary Karen Donfried met today in Yerevan and discussed Armenia-US bilateral relations and prospects of expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

Mirzoyan, according to a statement released by his office, briefed Donfried on the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the process of unblocking economic and transport ties in the region, as well as the activities of the Committee on Border Protection and Border Security.

Mirzoyan stressed the need for a full resumption of the peace talks aimed at a comprehensive settlement of the Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

The Armenian foreign minister described the humanitarian issues the country faces following the 2020 Karabakh war and called for the immediate release of all POWs held in Azerbaijan and the preservation of Armenian cultural and religious sites in territories now under Azerbaijani control.
