Pashinyan Focuses on Food Security at Eurasian Economic Union Conclave

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan focused on food security during remarks he made today at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting in Minsk.

After thanking Belarus PM Roman Golovchenko for organizing the session, Pashinyan said Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states must expand their cooperative efforts to adapt to current global economic challenges.

“In the context of modern economic challenges, one of the most important issues remains to ensure food security for our countries. At present, for objective reasons, there are restrictions on the supply of certain types of agricultural products in the general agricultural market, which may negatively affect the sustainable agricultural activities in our countries, in general, the food security of the Union,” Pashinyan remarked referring to western sanctions placed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

Pashinyan called for the removal trade barriers within the EAEU, the formation of new import-export logistics, the development of import substation and continued improvement of the business sector.

“Recent experience shows that most of the obstacles faced by businesses arise due to the lack of unified, coordinated, and agreed to rules of activity. Only the readiness for constructive dialogue, openness and transparency can help maintain positive dynamics in this issue,” Pashinyan remarked.

He also called for the development of digital tools and technology within the EAEU, arguing that it would save Armenia time and material resources given the lack of common borders within the Russian-led economic bloc.
