Opposition MP Resigns as Chairman of Armenian Parliament's Regional and Eurasian Integration Committee
Opposition Hayastan parliamentary faction MP Armen Gevorgyan today resigned as chairman of the Standing Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration.
Gevorgyan issued a statement that “political events in the country, however, led to a point that I am submitting my resignation from the position of the chairman of the commission.”
He did not specify what those “events” are, merely writing: “Today's situation dictates clear rules of political, public and human ethics, which I cannot ignore, and which do not allow me to continue serving as the chairman of the commission.
The committee he chaired deals with relations with the Russian-led Eurasian Economic Union and other countries of the region.
Gevorgyan’s resignation follows that of opposition With Honor MP Hayk Mamijanyan who today announced that he’s resigning from the post of deputy chairman of the parliament’s Standing Committee on Foreign Relations.
