Hay Post Issues Stamp Honoring "A Bride from the North" Film

Hay Post, Armenia’s postal service, has issued an 800-dram stamp honoring the 1975 film "Harsnatsu Hyusisits" (A Bride from the North) directed by Nerses Hovhannisyan.

The musical comedy satirizes Russian-Armenian relations and features Arno Babajanyan’s hit songs.

Only one episode of the film was shot in Armenia. Most of the film was shot in Peredelkino and Moscow.

The film centers on Artak, a young man from Soviet Armenia who completed his military service in the Russian countryside and falls in love with Valya. Her mother refuses to send her only daughter to “those far highlands, where earthquakes happen all the time”. Artak is forced to ask his relatives –Armenian villagers– to visit the remote Russian village and bring Valya to Armenia as his bride.
