Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Vahram Dumanyan today, in Yerevan, awarded gold medals to members of the Armenian men's team that came in second at the 44th World Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India.
“"The silver medal you won at the World Olympiad is worth its weight in gold to us. I am proud of this victory, and I want you to know that we are ready to help in the development and progress of the game in whatever way we can. I wish you future achievements. I am also grateful to the people who contributed to this victory," Dumanyan told the players.
Armenia outperformed the rating expectations and, despite being the 12th seeded, walked away with the silver medal.
