EU Welcomes Armenia-Azerbaijan Ceasefire Agreement

The European Union has welcomed a ceasefire agreement reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which came into force yesterday at 8 p.m. local time.

"We are encouraged by the reports coming from the ground, which indicate that the ceasefire is being maintained. We call on the parties to continue maintaining the ceasefire regime and to coordinate humanitarian measures, especially handing over the bodies of fallen soldiers,” reads a statement issued by the EU Office in Armenia today.

The statement says EU Special Representative Toivo Klaar continues high-level consultations with Baku and Yerevan.

“The EU continues its active involvement in the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including at the highest level, through the mediation of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel," the message reads.
