Pelosi, Armenian Defense Minister Discuss Defense Sector Cooperation

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan met on September 18 and discussed defense cooperation, this according to a statement released by Papikyan’s office.

The meeting took place at the Armenian Ministry of Defense.

While the ministry’s statement does not detail what was discussed, Pelosi, yesterday, hinted that the U.S. is ready to assist Armenia in the defense sector if the Armenian government ask for such assistance.

"Here, we will listen to the demands in the sphere of defense cooperation. Here, we will also listen to Armenia's expectations and questions to understand what we can do. Armenia's democracy, territorial integrity and sovereignty are considered important issues for us, and we want to express our active support. Of course, the decision is for Armenia to make. We can talk about our readiness here," Pelosi said yesterday, remaining vague on what type of defense cooperation she had in mind.
