California State Bar Investigates Two Lawyers in Armenian Genocide Settlement Scandal

The LA Times, on March 23, published the findings of an exhaustive investigation revealing how millions of dollars in Armenian Genocide settlements funds won in court cases were fraudulently misappropriated by lawyers and other shady characters along the way.

It was a major breaking story that went unnoticed by the Armenian press, either in the diaspora or Armenia.

But the story isn’t going away.

Yesterday, the LA Times reports the California State Bar is investigating two of the lawyers involved in the settlement case.

The two lawyers are. Mark Geragos and Brian Kabateck.

The scope of the investigation was not detailed in the bar’s news release.

“Complaints to the state bar and other law enforcement agencies about Geragos, Kabateck and other lawyers began in 2010 and continued for about a decade. Over the years, the state bar filed disciplinary charges against three lesser-known attorneys, and eventually disciplined one, but it took no action against Geragos and Kabateck,” reads today’s LA Times article.

The March 23 article  A ‘blood money’ betrayal: How corruption spoiled reparations for Armenian genocide victims, meticulously details what happened and is an engrossing read.
