The European Parliament's Standing Rapporteur on Armenia, MEP Andrey Kovatchev, during a meeting today with Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan, condemned Azerbaijani military incursions into Armenia and called on Baku to respect the ceasefire along the border.

Referring to recent Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia, Kovatchev said, "The attack was by Azerbaijan. Thus, they did not invade the territory of Armenia from the planet Mars.”

"For a long time, we have warned about a new war from the Azerbaijani side and we expect direct statements from our international partners condemning the actions of Azerbaijan," Simonyan noted.

He emphasized that Armenia appreciates the continuous mediating efforts of the European Union and the arrival of the EU observation mission at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

The parties also discussed the repatriation of Armenian POWs, Azerbaijan’s destruction of Armenian cultural heritage, and the report soon to be published by the EU Council of Ministers on the issue.:""
