Armenian Boxer Wins Gold at European Championships

Ani Hovsepyan from Armenia won gold at the 2022 EUBC Women’s European Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro.

Hovsepyan came in first place in the light middleweight (-75kg) division.

Hovsepyan outboxed Ireland’s Christina Desmond in the final, describing her as a difficult opponent.

“But my desire to win and fight in the ring was greater because I had waited so long for this moment and this medal. The European Championship is already history. I need to prepare even better and develop the success I have now. My plans and goals are focused on the 2024 Paris Olympics. I hope to be in the Olympic team,” Hovsepyan told reporters.

Yekaterina Sicheva (54 kg) and Sona Harutyunyan (63 kg) from Armenia won bronze medals.

This is the first time that boxers from Armenia have won medals at the championship.
