Turkey Extends Hand of Friendship to Armenia, Says Erdoğan
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told reporters today in Istanbul that his government is ready to normalize relations with Armenia if Yerevan maintains “positive relations” with Azerbaijan.
At a press conference before flying to Uzbekistan to attend the 9th Summit of the Organization of Turkish States, Erdoğan said Armenia continues to hinder the peace process with Azerbaijan and that the Armenian communities in France and the U.S. are pushing Yerevan to take a hardline in the negotiation process.
The Turkish leader called on the Armenian government to change its position regarding talks with Baku.
“We try to make friends, not enemies. It is my hope that if the Armenian administration succeeds in this, the steps they will take with Azerbaijan, especially Lachin and Zangezur, will positively affect the steps we will take,” Erdoğan said according to an Anadolu Agency article.
Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Erdoğan met in Prague on October 6 and discussed possible steps to normalize relations between their two countries.
