Azerbaijan Responds to ECHR Interim Measure Decision

Azerbaijan says seriously ill people from Artsakh seeking medical treatment are allowed to travel to Armenia via the Lachin Corridor and that the December 21 decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to impose an interim measure against Baku was unnecessary.

The ECHR called on Baku “to take all measures that are within its jurisdiction to ensure safe passage through the ‘Lachin Corridor’ of seriously ill persons in need of medical treatment in Armenia and others who were stranded on the road without shelter or means of subsistence.”

“On multiple occasions, video evidence published in different media outlets show the International Committee of the Red Cross and Armenian ambulances passing freely and safely through the Lachin road. Thus, the safe passage of seriously ill persons in need of medical treatment in Armenia, which has been indicated in the interim measure, has been ensured,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry writes.
