No Comment: Russian Deputy FM on Karabakh Status

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, during an interview with the Russian RIA Novosti news agency, shied away from commenting on how the status of Nagorno Karabakh will be dealt with in any possible peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"I want to emphasize that the peace treaty discussions are going directly between Baku and Yerevan," Galuzin said.

He added, "Moscow only provides support to the parties, as stipulated in the tripartite statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia based on the results of the Sochi summit on October 31, 2022."

"Negotiations on such a sensitive topic are highly confidential. We have no right to comment on their content, including the Karabakh issue. It will only harm the case," he said.

Speaking about the demarcation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Galuzin noted that Moscow hopes for a phased solution to the issue.

According to Galuzin, the priorities are the unblocking of transport and economic connections in the region, the demarcation of borders, and the solution of humanitarian problems.
