
Turkish Diplomat Thanks Armenia for Earthquake Aid
Serdar Kılıç, who represents Turkey in normalization talks with Armenia, today thanked Armenia for sending humanitarian assistance to Turkey following this week’s devastating earthquake.
"Thank you, dear Vahan Kostanyan, thank you, dear Ruben Rubinyan, for your kind efforts that made this a reality. I will always remember the generous aid sent by the people of Armenia to ease the suffering of our people in the earthquake-affected region of Turkey," the Turkish diplomat wrote on his Twitter microblog.

The Turkish diplomat’s remarks follow news reported by Armenian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vahan Kostanyan and ministry Press Secretary Vahan Hunanyan that Armenia has sent one hundred tons of aid to Turkey via trucks that crossed the Armenian-Turkish border in the Margara-Alijan section.
Kılıç Tweeted the one hundred tons of humanitarian aid includes food, medicines, water and other necessary supplies, which will be sent to the Turkish city of Adiyaman, where Armenian emergency workers have been dispatched.

This week’s earthquakes have killed an estimated 24,000 in Turkey and Syria. The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) reports 20,665 have died in Turkey and 3,500 in Syria.
According to the UN, at least 870,000 people in both countries are in urgent need of food. According to that structure, 5.3 million people were left homeless in Syria alone. The World Bank has announced that it will allocate US$1.78 billion to Turkey.
