Armenian Labor Minister, ILO Head Discuss Sector Reforms
Armenia Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Narek Mkrtchyan, now in the United Arab Emirates, today met with Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Gilbert Houngbo and discussed labor sector and employment reforms in Armenia.
The two discussed the possible introduction of an institute for the extrajudicial resolution of labor disputes in Armenia and the unemployment insurance system.
Mkrtchyan thanked Houngbo for for the ILO’s support of Armenia’s reforms in the labor field.
The ILO was created in 1919, as part of the treaty of Versailles that ended World War I, to reflect the belief that universal and lasting peace can be accomplished only if it is based on social justice.
The ILO says it aims to ensure that it serves the needs of working women and men by bringing together governments, employers and workers to set labor standards, develop policies and devise programs.
