Armenia will spend 240.5 million AMD (US$615,000) to celebrate the one-hundredth anniversary of Armenian cinema.

On April 16, 1923, the Soviet Armenian government established the Armenian State Committee of Cinema.  In March 1924, the first Armenian film studio, Armenfilm (Hayfilm), was established in Yerevan.

The 100th anniversary of Armenian cinema has been included in UNESCO's Calendar of Famous People and Important Events.
