Former Armenian Army General Arrested for Money Laundering
Yerevan law enforcement today arrested former Major General Grigory Khachaturov on charges of illegally obtaining real estate.
Armenia's Prosecutor General's Office says it has amassed sufficient evidence that Khachaturov abused his powers to obtain the property for money laundering.
Grigory Khachaturov is the son of the former Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary-General and former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, General Yuri Khachaturov.
Major General Grigory Khachaturov was among dozens of high-ranking army officers who signed a statement in February 2021, demanding the resignation of the government and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan following the Armenian military defeat in the 2020 Artsakh war.
UPDATE: Armenia's Anti-Corruption Court later today released Khachaturov while the investgation continues.
