Armenia, with Ukraine War Reservation, Signs Democracy Summit Declaration

Armenia, with reservations, signed a declaration issued by the Summit for Democracy that condemns Russian aggression against Ukraine and “demands that Moscow immediately and unconditionally withdraw all of its military forces from Ukraine.”

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan’s office released a statement that the paragraph in question condemning Russia “does not reflect all conflicts and crises in comprehensive and inclusive manner and fails to address the fact of Azerbaijan's acts of aggression against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and occupation of the certain parts of the sovereign territory of Armenia.”

Pashinyan, in a speech at the summit’s plenary session, said Armenia is committed to democratic reform, adding that his administration is committed to the peace process with Azerbaijan despite Baku’s continued blockade of the Lachin Corridor.

The summit was launched by U.S. President Joe Biden.
