Few Specifics on Meeting of Armenian, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers
The Armenian Foreign Ministry today, in a statement, had little to say regarding yesterday’s meeting in Washington D.C. of the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan to discuss the normalization of relations between the two countries.
The ministry merely reported that the ministers discussed regional security and Baku’s blockade of the Lachin Corridor.
An unnamed U.S. State Department official quoted by Radio Liberty said the discussions would last several days and would “include issues of how ethnic minorities are treated in both countries in terms of their rights and security.”
This is an evident reference to the Karabakh conflict and the majority position of the international community that Nagorno Karabakh is sovereign Azerbaijani territory.
U.S. State Secretary Antony Blinken hosted the meeting.
