Armenia's Population Drops Below 3 Million
Preliminary results of the 2022 census show the permanent population of Armenia dropped 90,000, from 3.018 million to 2.928 million over the past twelve years.
Armenia’s Statistical Committee says the figure of 2,928,914 includes those who usually live in the country but have been absent from it for up to a year.
Armenia’s current population of 2.639 million (those physically in Armenia at the time of the 2022), was 233,000 less than the last census in 2011.
In 2001, when the first census in Armenia took place, the country’s permanent population was pegged at 3.213 million and the current population – 3.003 million.
This is the first time since independence that Armenia’s permanent population has dropped below 3 million according to official data.
